Senior Windows System Engineer

About the Role 

Our client, a leading financial institution based in Luxembourg, is seeking a Senior Windows System Engineer to join its IT Production Department. 

Reporting directly to the Head of Division, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, high availability, and security of the Bank’s critical Windows Server infrastructure operating within a highly regulated banking environment. 

The position covers a broad range of infrastructure engineering activities, including Windows Server administration, PowerShell automation, Active Directory & PKI governance, Level 3 incident escalation, technical project coordination, and knowledge transfer to L2 teams. 

This is a highly visible technical role requiring close interaction with cross-functional teams, including Risk, Cybersecurity, Application teams, and Infrastructure operations. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Windows Systems Engineering & High Availability
    • Administer, maintain, and continuously optimize critical Windows Server infrastructure (versions 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025).
    • Ensure second-line operational management of key Microsoft infrastructure components, including Active Directory, ADFS, ADCS, and Windows Failover Clusters.
    • Guarantee adherence to strict banking SLAs, high-availability requirements, and service quality standards. 
  • Automation, Scripting & System Optimization
    • Design, develop, and deploy advanced PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and system deployments.
    • Proactively identify areas for infrastructure hardening, automation, and reliability improvement.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance Integration
    • Implement and enforce security best practices and hardening guidelines across all Microsoft server environments.
    • Ensure infrastructure alignment with internal security policies, risk frameworks, and regulatory banking requirements. 
  • Technical Coordination & Project Management
    • Lead and coordinate technical mini projects within the IT infrastructure perimeter.
    • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams (VMware, Network, Security, Applications) to ensure successful project execution.
    • Plan and manage workload autonomously using project management methodology (e.g., MS Project).
  • L3 Support & Knowledge Transfer
    • Act as an escalation point for complex Level 3 technical troubleshooting and incident resolution.
    • Author, maintain, and update high-quality technical documentation and procedures.
    • Provide structured knowledge transfer and guidance to Level 2 operational teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience 

  • Education: Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, System Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Professional Experience
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in IT system engineering and administration.
    • Proven experience working within high-availability, mission-critical environments (Banking, Finance, or insurance sector strongly preferred).
  • Technical Mastery:
    • Confirmed expertise in Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022, 2025).
    • Advanced scripting and automation capabilities with PowerShell.
    • Strong expertise in Active Directory, ADFS, ADCS, and Windows Failover Clustering.
    • Solid understanding of Microsoft infrastructure security and hardening practices.
  • Asset / Complementary Skills:
    • Hands-on exposure to virtualization technologies (VMware, Omnissa Horizon).
    • Familiarity with network concepts (DNS, WebProxy, Firewalls, Load Balancing) and MS Project.

Language Requirements: Knowledge of Luxembourgish constitutes a strong advantage.

Professional fluency in French AND English (both written and spoken) is mandatory.
