Java / COBOL Developer

Your day to day

  • Work within an agile and collaborative development environment, alongside Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners and other stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy and monitor Java 8 applications.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and modernization of legacy applications, including applications migrated from COBOL to Java.
  • Leverage your knowledge of procedural programming and COBOL to understand and maintain existing application components.
  • Work with relational databases, particularly DB2.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the modernization of the application landscape.
  • Take ownership of specific areas of the application domain and progressively develop strong technical expertise.
  • Contribute to technical and architectural decisions and be able to justify architecture choices.
  • Work across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through testing, deployment and monitoring.
  • Use continuous deployment and integration tools such as Kubernetes (K8s) and Jenkins.
  • Collaborate with developers from other teams to improve systems, processes and technical practices.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing through code reviews, pair programming and technical guidance.

Your profile

  • Solid experience in Object-Oriented Programming, particularly Java 8.
  • Good knowledge of procedural programming, with COBOL experience being a strong asset.
  • Experience working with relational databases, ideally DB2.
  • Knowledge of BASH scripting is a strong asset.
  • Good understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to contribute to and defend technical and architectural decisions.
  • Experience with CI/CD and deployment tools, such as Jenkins and Kubernetes.
  • Good knowledge of Git and source code management systems.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to support the development of other team members through code reviews and pair programming.
  • Proactive, autonomous and comfortable learning and adopting new technologies.
  • Strong interest in continuous improvement and modern software development practices.
  • Ability to work on-site at least 4 days per week.
  • Personal projects or technical achievements shared through GitHub or similar platforms are considered an additional asset.
